Why fresh raw turmeric (kachi haldi) vs powder turmeric?
β Natural oils in raw turmeric stay intact so when you make teas, lattes, pickles and food with grated turmeric or julienned turmeric, the peppery and earthy flavour oils get extracted and infused into your drink and food.
β Nutrients in fresh turmeric are more easily absorbed. In particular, the main antioxidant bioactive compound in turmeric called Curcumin, which possesses multiple therapeutic properties is better used by the body.
β Deep flavour and orange colour of turmeric in its purest raw organic form is a magical culinary delight.
How to use? A little goes a long way!
Tea β Simply pound (with our handmade wooden muddler) or grate and add 1 tsp to 200ml water. Bring to boil, let simmer for 2 mins, sieve and pour to enjoy the tasty earthy aromatic flavour. This therapeutic beverage also helps heal sore throat and aids gut detoxification. Do make and compare the same with powder turmeric and you will taste a big difference!
Research suggests adding black pepper for better curcumin absorption so go ahead and add 1 pod, although curcumin in fresh turmeric is more easily absorbed than its powder form.
Milk based latte β Simply pound (with our handmade wooden muddler) or grate and add 1 tsp to 200ml coconut or cowβs milk. Bring to boil, let simmer for 2 mins, sieve, pour and enjoy a delicious hot cuppa.
Pickles β Slice them into julienne (cut in thin strips) and make pickles with ginger, green chilli, mustard oil and spices β 2 recipes will be included in your order
Food and Soups β Simply grate and add 1 tbsp to cook warm food or make broths.
